Jewel Bandit

I think one of the most exciting aspects of attending shows from season to season is getting to see how young designers grow and develop. Jonathan Cohen displayed plenty of promise during his first show last season, and his fall collection really demonstrates his strengths and talents. One of Jonathan's specialties is designing his own digital print fabrics, and this season he adopted the theme of tromp l'oeil embellishment, taking individual images of rhinestones, pearls and feathers to create prints of elaborate embroideries. For additional depth and texture, he embroidered real stones and feathers on top of the printed ones resulting in a witty faux/real effect. Another of Jonathan's strengths is his sense of color; while many fall collections end up reverting to a basic black color palette, all of the garments were rendered in rich jewel tones that matched the stone embroidery. The entire collection was rich and luxe, yet still modern and appealing. I'm definitely looking forward to see what comes from Jonathan next!
