Le Smoking

The smoking lip shirt

Holly Fulton's collections are always graphic, refreshingly bold, and highly inspired. This season, you can add cheeky to the list of adjectives, as the designer used the love affair between Coco Chanel and the Duke of Westminster as the starting point for her collection. Drawing from the spirit of the time period, the clothes are adorned with big sassy lips--some of which puff at cigarettes (hold your nose Brandon), wildly gesticulating jazz hands, and the high-kicking legs of cabaret dancers. If the illustrations have a familiar feel about them, it's because they were modeled after the ones that illustrator Heinz Edelmann did for The Beatles album, Yellow Submarine. To add some sparkle to all the dancing and festivities going on, many of the garments are adorned with Swarovski crystals and gems, as well as Holly's signature acrylic jewels, which come built into some dresses. Of course they are also available on their own, since Holly is a big fan of the "complete look," and created matching shoes, bags, and jewels for each outfit. I'm sure wearing any one piece from this collection would guarantee as rollicking of a time as Chanel had with her lover.

One of my favorite pieces, a full-length dress adorned with clouds, Twizzler lips, and more crystals!
