I've found that a lot of the best jewelry designers start as sculptors working with foundries. That's how London based designers Yunus and Eliza met in 2007. Discovering that they shared a similar vision, the pair decided to collaborate on a sculptural line of jewelry that embodied their interest in both the mythological and the futuristic. Many of their pieces mimic classical sculpture, referencing historical periods from Ancient Rome to Revolutionary France, often rendered on a larger scale than most jewelers are willing to work with. Even though the influences are rooted in tradition, each piece of jewelry is given its own, often frightening, twist. Many of the busts and sculptures appear to be eroded or eaten away until they resemble ruins, and while they have a collection of perfectly polished metal leaves, they also present several leaves in various states of decomposition. Most incredibly, each of the pieces are entirely hand-made by the designers, in the same foundry at which they originally met. Here are just a few examples of their visually arresting work.
