Its 4:08 am PST, meaning that it is 7:08 EST and my my body is starting to hate me for still trying to function (sober-ly) at this absurd hour.
I'm in the City of Angels for PAPER Magazine's Annual LA Project. As part of this and last years' festivities that they host during the NYC-based publication's left coast 5-day takeover, PAPER rounds up their favorite designers, stores, and labels and holds a 24 HOUR STORE..!! So fabulous, so retarded, sooooo BANANAS, and of course I'm here reppin' Screaming Mimis! The outcome is a designer fleamarket-meets-party of the season.
My brain cells are temporarily suspended from any vigorous activity so my front-line coverage will have to continue in bullets:
- The Vendor List, (aka Causes of Debt): Henry Holland, Rodarte, Jeremy Scott, Heartschallenger, Supreme, Levi's, Screaming Mimis (yuhhh), Modern Appealing Clothing, Opening Ceremony, Band of Outsiders, Katy Rodriguez and Tony Alva, Mary Ping's Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Libertine, Mollusk, Cobrasnake, CITIZEN:citizen, RVCA, Show Pony, and-- believe it or not-- many others. GAG!
- The creavity and ingenuity of fellow retailers and merchandisers gathering together and designing their 6x6 space is really inspiring.Kinda feels like the makings of a new Bravo reality show.
- The store kicked off at 6pm with a local high school MARCHING BAND and COLOR GUARD!!! GAG, again!! And Converse put the whole lot in some new pairs of the classic kicks. So cute!
- A Katy Rodriguez black sleeveless silk crepe ULTRA-dramatic fishtail dress for $44, anyone?? Yes, be jealous.
- Ok, if you don't know Modern Appealing Clothing in San Fran, look them up immediatelyyy! Not only is their apparel almost exclusively by Belgian design, (ie Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Everything etc), but they also sell pieces by artists of Creative Growth Art Center. CGAC represents and nutures incredibly talented mentally and physically disabled artists. So amazing!
Oh thank god, its now 5:30 PST (I got distracted!) and my secong wind just kicked in! One and a half hours to go and I get to sleeeeeeep!
PS: they just announced a Vendor Karaoke Hour! BANANAS!
