I don't normally make much of an effort to see many men's shows. I met up with Lulu at the Siki Im presentation last night, and we both admitted that the main draw is usually checking out the male models rather than taking a good look at the clothes. Hey, at least we're honest! Nonetheless, I was very impressed by the fall collection, which was influenced by somber spirituality, and an awareness of the earth and soil. Many of the pieces were inspired by the Native American spirit, and the designer collaborated with fifth generation Native American weaver Tahnibaa Naataanii to create the hand woven kilts and rugs worn in the show. There was a certain mastery in the layering of the various garments, which were piled on top of one another as protection from the elements, but inevitably reminded me of my favorite layer-lover, Brandon (who would probably add a good spike of color to the mix). Of course, under all the high hats, feathers, and dark eyeshadow, I did notice some very good looking male models hiding beneath.

Back to the Land

Why Fight It?
Scandinavian? Check. Male Model? Check. Musician? Check. Thus goes my checklist for "ideal male" (um, outside of my darling husband) and Christoffer Fagerli satisfies all of the above requirements. I recently found this Norwegian Dior Homme model through Pudri. Go listen to his haunting songs on his Myspace, which are absolutely lovely. If I wasn't doing a fashion blog, I'd probably be writing an even dorkier music blog, so that's my excuse. You can also check out this article written by my awesome friend Fumi, who always knows all the hottest boys (I met her through my male model friend Jonas).

Anyhow, I blame Zana for unleashing the "modelizing" demon inside me when she posted these images of Nick Cave's Balenciaga model son, Jethro Cave. Hey, why fight it?

Self Taught Learner

Jonas at my wedding, wearing vintage. Photo by Jason Andrew
It's a given that Jonas Sundstrom is pretty nice to look at. Girls, gays, and even many heterosexual males, all swoon over his androgynous features. With bone structure built for modeling, Jonas just finished touring on Ryan McGinley's Roadtrip, and also recently wrapped a shoot for the Balenciaga Men's catalog. Be that as it may, Jonas's best traits are his complete joie de vivre, and the way he manages to translate everyday moments into elegiac poetry whenever he tells a story. I also love him because he managed to get back to New York from the Roadtrip just in time to DJ with Anton at my wedding. I've known Jonas for three years now, since he first arrived in New York from Sweden, and it would seem that nothing boring ever happens in his life, or maybe that's just the way he tells it. Some day I hope he will have time to write it all down, but in the meantime he's made a beautiful video with the lovely Tarynn Weihahn for Lissy Trullie's song, "Self Taught Learner."
If you would like to see more of Jonas, you can look for him in the Sigur Ros video for Globbledigook, also shot by Ryan McGinley.
