A Doll's House

Andrew Yang, who just left his job as a Designer at Dennis Basso, the infamous furrier to many an uptown dame, has spent the last year making $50,000 fur coats by day, while handcrafting pouting, couture wearing dolls by night.  At the close of Fashion Week, Andrew took 10 of his creations, and displayed them in a show called Blushing Muslin, named for the scraps of the tailor's pattern making cloth from which each doll is constructed.

Well, if you're going to be all creepy and make dolls, you may as well make them extra f'in frightening, and Andrew makes a point of constructing completely deranged looking dolls, who always have an accompanying maudlin storyline, usually involving a certain amount of sexual frustration that only a doll can have.  We have the Siamese twins that hate each other, the overweight and sexually promiscuous Beth doll, and the runway (lesbian?) Indian princess and her handmaiden who have been caught and face execution.  These aren't Jason Wu's sterling little princesses.  I applaud Andrew for making dolls of every ethnicity and bodytype (even of the mermaid variety), although I definitely was a little pissed off that there wasn't an Asian girl doll, although Andrew says that he has a geisha girl in the works, along with a half boy/half girl thing for you transgendered kids out there.  And if somehow you don't fall into any of these categories of freakishness, and you have, say, $600 or so to spare, he will even make a doll version of yourself.  Unfortunately, my pictures from the opening, which we guest hosted, came out completely crappy as usual, but I found these on Andrew's facebook.

This is one of my favorite outfits, made from Ralph Lauren black and white checked scraps, and matched with black hightops.  I would wear this if there was a real girl sized version!
