Sunshine State: Rodebjer Spring 2012

Arrived yesterday in Stockholm after one of the most unpleasant flights ever. Being so jetlagged I would normally skip the first 9 AM show, but of course the first show of the day was Rodebjer, and I couldn't possibly miss that. Lucky for me, the show was stationed far far away from the tents--a long trek for most, but barely a ten minute walk through the woods from my apartment. We always stay in Jimmy's old apartment, which is in Grondal, the Park Slope of Stockholm: lots of kids, and not much happening. Strangely enough the Cheap Monday show will be here too, steps away from my door.

This season, Karin Rodebjer was inspired by the life of an artist living on the Mediterranean coast. The color palette was based on artist's materials like canvas, clay, and bright paint, and the collection of wide brimmed hats, striped palazzo pants, watercolor floral print bikini tops and diaphanous maxi skirts evoked sunny seaside jaunts, and places that are a lot warmer than Stockholm in the summer. Speaking of which, it is in the 60's and cloudy outside right now. About to grab my little sister-in-law, and head to the Minimarket show. Hope the weather will take a turn for the better, as this collection has gotten me in the mood to see some sun.

Winterviken's Cafe, where the show took place. This is my hood!

Gimme Shelter

This is just a quick post before I run off to Stockholm and Scandinavia for the rest of the month. I don't know how my internet connection will be yet, so posting might be shoddy, but expect updates from Stockholm Fashion Week whenever I can get a chance (hope to run into some of you there?). In the meantime, please check out my partner Christina's side project, Shelter. She just started this beeswax candle line with our friend Sofia, using custom molds that they crafted themselves. They're only $15-$18 each, so there's no excuse not to snatch one up. I am definitely going to buy one of the horsehead candles for myself once I get back in town!

Aapo Has a Blog

My long-distance-BFF Aapo is a man of few words, so when he restarted his blog, it made sense for him to switch over to Tumblr. While I'm going to miss the random assortment of teenage party Polaroids that populated his long defunct blogger site (a throwback to when I first met Aapo at STEREO), his new site is undeniably more refined, featuring his work as a stylist in Stockholm and Helsinki. Ironically, just as I plan my move to Stockholm--I will be temporarily relocating there in November while Jimmy goes to grad school--Aapo decided to move back to Helsinki. I am already planning on making many Drunk Boat visits back and forth, but am happy that in the meantime I can follow his going-ons, and his signature style. See you soon Aapo!
