Chrome Heart

Mischen top, Gerard Yosca giant rhinestone necklaces worn backwards, fake Lanvin necklace from the district, Gerard Yosca meteoroid cuff and ring, and Ioselliani ring.

It's funny how much taste can change.  When I was younger, I used to exclusively prefer silver jewelry, deeming gold too flashy.  My mother always told me that I would grow into loving gold, and bizarrely, as if it were part of coming of age, I found myself preferring flashy and brassy metals.  Tastes certainly evolve over time and with age.  I personally hope that when I'm an old lady I'll be dressing like Rei Kawakubo, or if I'm really lucky, maybe I will turn out like cougar grannie DVF, but who knows, maybe my taste buds will shrivel up and I will end up looking like a Boca Raton pensioner.  I am an incredibly fickle person, and a couple of years in the fashion industry has only made me just that more likely to flip flop on my sartorial choices and preferences.  Right now, I've flopped back to favoring silver (even though I still love gold), which has no doubt been influenced by the recent runway obsession with robot-android-terminator women from the future.  All my silver jewelry, in every variation of plate colors has been in heavy rotation, and I've recently taken to wearing my giant gemstone jewelry from a couple of seasons ago backwards, so their reflective foil backings show.  I suppose that is one solution for ever changing taste---if you get tired of something, turn it inside out, upside down, and backward, and maybe, just maybe, you'll like it a little better.

The Teaches of Peaches

Peaches- Set it Off

So, our new Saturday night at TriBeCa Grand has been been out of control, and tomorrow the insanity is going to escalate (we're talking lines out the door, so you know, RSVP and come early). One of our favorite crazy attitudinal bitches of all time, Peaches, will be doing a special DJ set, along with So Me of Ed Banger Records.  Love or hate her music, you cannot deny that the woman is a raunchy riot, who always puts on a swinging-from-the-chandelier style performance, and never fails to show up wearing anything that isn't completely obscene-amazing.  Please come out and join us, and as always, make sure to say 66Sick at the door for free entry!

Thigh High DIY?

Out of all of the trends to come out of the shows in the past few weeks, one which has certainly stuck out to my eye is the thigh high boots. I first saw them this Fashion Week season marching down the runways of my friend Joseph Altuzarra's show, adorned with tufts of fur. As they passed, Mickey Boardman jokingly suggested that I give them the good old DIY treatment. I thought nothing of it, but Vogue editor Lauren Santo Domingo, who was also at the show, must have been thinking along the same lines as Mr. Mickey.  According to Vogue, after seeing proliferation of thigh highs on the runway, Santo Domingo immediately tried to obtain a pair, and when that failed, went straight to the cobbler, and had a pair of her boots altered and customized.  Not only did she have extra leather added to the top of each boot for extra length, but she even made a customized garter belt to wear with them.

Well if that wasn't enough inspiration to get me to the cobbler, the spate of runway shoe porn that has been gushing in over the past few days has pushed me to my limit.  I already have a couple of thigh high boots.  In fact, I just tossed a vintage pair of them for being a bit too piratey and boho for my taste.  And even though I felt adequately covered in the over-the-knee boot department BEFORE runway season started, of course now I feel that oh-so-certain-lack that weeks of gobbling up Style.com will give you.  There is Gareth Pugh's luscious video feature an angular number that tapers out at the thigh, there are Rodarte's baggy pull-ons wrapped up in leather straps, and today I saw more than a dozen different varieties up for grabs at the Louis Vuitton show.  Enough is enough.  While I will leave one of my lovely pairs of thigh high boots in tact, I am going down to St. Mark's place tomorrow with my other worn out pair, and a couple of these runway photos, and seeing what they can do for me.  At the very least, a Santo Domingo-inspired lengthening is in store.  I'll keep you posted.
