In response to the decline in retail, Saks has commissioned
Shepard Fairey to do a soviet propaganda inspired marketing campaign urging customers to consume. This is a surprising collaboration because I am used to seeing
Fairey's work in the streets, and not in upscale department stores. I love the shopping bags and it really does make me want to shop at Saks just to get one (I really love packaging) , so I guess it is working already.
Terron E.
Schaefer, the senior vice president for marketing at Saks was quoted as saying, “What we do every day, really, is propaganda”.

Shepard
Fairey's original Obama Print was the first presidential portrait to be
admitted in to the
Smithsonian before his term began.
